Live in a different country. This is probably the best decision you will ever made. You should move over at least 5,000 miles from your home. I know it will scare the crap out of you but trust me it will turn out to be the most incredible experience. It opens your eyes, gives you new perspective and actually really help you to appreciate what you love about where you come from. Being young and independent gives you the freedom to do this, but be warned, it can become addictive.
Exercise as much as you can. Whether its playing sport with your friends or running in the park, take advantage of having a body that heals itself quickly. The exercise itself is good for you and makes you happy, and as you get older it is so important to be in good shape. Before you know it, slight injuries will last for way longer than they used to, and your back will seize up for no apparent reason. When you’re young you still get to feel like superman.
Travel as much as possible. Get out there and see the world, explore interesting cultures and countries. Being young is one of the best times to do this. You likely have fewer responsibilities, more energy and more tolerance of discomfort enabling you to travel on a shoestring budget.
Figure out what you want to do for work by trying out lots of different things. Most people seem to fall into a job straight after university / college and then end building their career in that area, whether they enjoy it or not. Actually one of the most valuable experiences you can get out of working somewhere is learning that it isn’t for you. So when you’re young, try many varied and different things to discover your likes and dislikes and your strengths and weaknesses.
Cultivate hobbies other than watching TV or browsing the internet….reading, writing, music, art. As you go through life you will appreciate having these sorts of activities to help you switch off from your worries, and will also feel more productive.
